Celebrate National Picnic Month with a Picnic in Havelock, North Carolina

As the summer draws to a close, you don’t have to move indoors just yet. There is still plenty of warm, sunny weather to enjoy. In fact, August is recognized as National Picnic Month. To celebrate, here are some of the best spots to have a picnic in Havelock.

  • Croatan National Forest. Havelock is surrounded on all sides by this spectacular forest. Pack up your picnic basket and head in any direction you like. Stay along the northern edge for spectacular water views.
  • City Park. Just off Highway 70 is the fantastic City Park here in Havelock. It offers picnic shelters with charcoal grills and a playground for the kids to have some fun.
  • New Bern Battlefield Park. Take in a bit of history while enjoying your picnic lunch at New Bern Battlefield Park. This park is the site of the historic 1862 Civic War Battle of New Bern. The park includes over 30 acres of the original battlefield.
  • Fort Macon State Park. For another dose of history matched with breathtaking ocean views, head south to Fort Macon State Park. You’ll be able to tour this Civil War-era fort and even swim along the beautiful, unspoiled coastline.
