New Year’s Eve is a great time to think back on the year that was and get excited for the year to come. Not everyone wants to go out to the big parties, though, especially if there are younger children in the family. Check out these tips for a fun New Year at home with your nearest and dearest as you count down to 2016.
- Make Countdown Bags – This is especially great when kids are celebrating alongside you. Make a bag for every hour leading up to midnight to help build excitement. The bags can include puzzles, small toys, or candy. Make sure one of the bags leading up to midnight is fully stocked with noisemakers!
- Set Up A New Year’s Tree – Christmas is over, and the tree is still up. Get ready for 2016 by packing away the Christmas-themed ornaments and decorating the tree with balloons, streamers, and other fun surprises. This would be another great place to put noisemakers until they are needed at midnight.
- Ring in 2016 in Style- Take a shot at the Spanish tradition of eating 12 grapes at midnight for good luck. To make counting them out easy, prepare skewers pre-loaded with the grapes before you start celebrating. For a different way to have champagne when the ball drops, consider making sparkling Jell-o jigglers in fun shapes (just keep them far away from small hands).
From the Riverside Ford family to yours, Happy New Year!
